At our January 12 General Meeting, a motion was passed to print the Highlander on a quarterly basis, the number of copies printed be cut in half and no mailings.
At our February 09 General Meeting, a motion was passed to mail the Highlander to those outside a 50 km radius of the Branch with the current exemptions (age, infirm etc).
Therefore any member who lives within the boundaries of Port

All forms received by May 15th have been processed and those people will receive a hardcopy of the Highlander.
The Highlander is uploaded to this website at the same time it is sent to the printer. , so if you want an early look at the Highlander be sure to keep watching this site towards the end of the month. |

NEWS! NEWS! NEWS!
I would like to start my report by thanking all the 123 members who came out to the last General meeting and elected me again to serve you as your President. You have elected a strong Executive this year and we will do our best to fulfil the trust that you have given us to make this a stronger Branch. We still have a few members who wish to be disruptive and create issues, but the majority of the membership have spoken and feel they have made the right decision on election night. I would like to thank the zone election committee chaired by our newly elected District Commander Sheila Harris for running the elections.
We attended the Provincial Convention in Burlington on May 10 -13, 2009. The Provincial By-Laws committee had proposed a number of changes to our Branch By-Laws and after a lot of hours and debate; the new Branch By-Laws and Branch Regulations were passed. These new By-Laws will now be sent to Dominion Command for approval and if approved will take effect after October 01, 2009.
I have put together a By-Law committee to review the new Provincial By-Laws and draft our new Branch Regulations for the membership’s approval after the Provincial By-Laws have been approved in October. The new Provincial By-Laws and Branch Regulations will then be submitted to the membership at our October General meeting with a Notice of Motion and a Special Meeting will be called to finalize the new Provincial By-Laws and Branch Regulations.
Comrade Ed Pigeau was elected Provincial President and Andre Paquette is the new 1st Vice President. New Vice Presidents Bruce Julian from District “B”, Brian Smith from District “C” and Brain Weaver from District “A” were elected.
Canada Day will be our next big event and we hope all the members will come out and help and support your Branch. We cannot always leave it up to the few volunteers to always do the work. Come out, march in the Parade, help sell tickets, man a booth for a couple of hours and make this a great Canada Day. |
